The bloke from Winning Streak invites you to a barbeque but insists that you take 'the best album released between 1995 and 2000'. But which album do you take?

I have been so moved by the overwhelming response. I would add the the long list of titles that of Fuzzy Logic. Thank you.

I think the cryptic cartoon put people off.
I would bring "Violator" by Depeche Mode. Or maybe Orbital's "Snivilisation".
Feck, this is hard! OK, forget the albums, this is what I'd do: smack him across the head for saying that all the "You're a Star" contestants were extremely talented.

Screamadelica would be a great choice if it weren't released in 1991, thus making it a bit of an outsider for best album released between 1995 and 2000. Up The Mode though! Best album released this week? the new Flaming Lips!

Yes, Screamadelica would be a good choice, but I fail to see why you mentioned it at all.
I too am looking forward to hearing the new Lips album. Yoshimi was disappointing... Also I'm not sure about the promo photos with the lady in Uncut magazine... she does look lovely, but really...!

Oh play fair Evil Webmaster! Deleteing parts of a post AFTER you have posted them is a privilege only you have and therefore an abuse of your vast and unforgiving powers! It also proves you are wrong! ;D Mmmmmwuhahahahahahaaaaaaaaa!
Secondly: Yeah, that cover of Uncut was crap. Not as crap however as the pathetic pile of adult, chin stroking, reduce music to a passionless social science rather than an art form bull pooh that exists between it's bloated covers monthly.
Lips album wise: Yoshimi was a load of Cat Stevens nonsense and whilst this new one is better it's still sounds like out takes from Soft Bulletin (in a good way - where as Yoshimi sounded like outakes in a bad way) so it baffles me why the press insist upon flogging this line that they are the most progressive and dangerous band in rock. Hells kitchen! My Mother has pushed more envelopes than all of the Lips put together. Mind you, she does work in a Post Office.
Which brings me onto my final and unrelated point. Is the genre of Post Rock so called because all the bands are on such obscure labels that you can only buy the CDs by mail order?
End of rant. Phew!
" I live sweat, but I dream light years...."
PS - Note to the Editor of Uncut:
The difference between us and you is that we understand music.

Oh play fair Evil Webmaster! I wish my powers were as youb describe. I could not erase the evidence that I had edited my post. It's a fair cop guvnor! Yeah, that cover of Uncut was crap. The cover was good- Wayne has an arresting face. It was the "friend of the family"(!!!) posing naked with him that was a bit dodgy. Not as crap however as the pathetic pile of adult, chin stroking, reduce music to a passionless social science rather than an art form bull pooh that exists between it's bloated covers monthly. Yes, it's duller than Q magazine, but not as dull as the Sunday Times. Yoshimi was a load of Cat Stevens nonsense Very good. So do you still maintain that "Do you Realise?" is the best song ever written? I don't care what the Flaming Lips did/ do from "The Soft Bulletin" on- they are lovely, fantastic live, and have made one of the most amazing albums ever. I like that they've stayed on Warner Bros. because the WB icon looks good on their album covers! Hey, does "The Soft Bulletin" fit into to your opening parameters for a barbecue (note spelling) record?

"Do You Realize??" (note correct US spelling) is still a beautiful song, but the drag factor of Father &.... , I mean "Fight Song" is too great to lift the album above average. I mean, even the most peaceful man in the world sued them for that! Anyway, I think that perhaps Beck's version of "Do You Realize??" is perhaps more affecting in all it's stripped down tenderness. It is true though that live is where they really do it. Can you believe that the first time I saw them they were supporting Mercury Rev. I mean come on! Supporting? What an incredible £8 though; two of the best live bands in the world.
True also, nothing is more dull or more stuffy than the Sunday Times with it's adolescent 'what ever everyone thinks is good I'm going to say isn't good' type of journalism. It's not even provocatively done as it' stinks of superiority and middle aged comfort.
Bye.

PS - Did I ever actually claim that Do You Realize??" was the 'best song ever written'? No, I think perhaps that I didn't, since "Pretty In Pink" will always hold that title.

US spelling??? US spelling? Hideous! A half arsed attempt at simplifying spelling. They never finished the job.
Yes, you did once claim that "Do you Realise?" was the best song ever written. That's funny, the Cat Stevens comparision. I actually like that fighting song...
I think XTC's "The Mayor of Simpleton" is the best song ever written. And to prove it, Andy got an Ivor Novello award.

Alas, I can not claim the Cat Steven's comparison. It was noted by another before me. Namely the aforementioned Mr Steven's who demanded some cash money from the Lips for such blatant plagerism.
